ElectraSense Makes Sense of Influenza
Acacia Research Corporation announced that its CombiMatrix group has launched the ElectraSense Influenza Typing System based on CombiMatrix's proprietary electrochemical detection technology and its Influenza A Typing Microarray, which can identify all strains of influenza A, including the
pathogenic H5N1 strain that has an approximate 50 percent mortality rate. The platform is a simple, compact system eliminating the complexity, delicate lasers, and fluorescent dyes common with existing systems. CombiMatrix will seek FDA approval for this product.

Bridging the Gap with Golden
Gate PortfolioIllumina has expanded its GoldenGate Genotyping Portfolio with three new SNP assay panels designed to allow researchers to study genetic variation and help to better understand how certain genotypes impact disease. Illumina's GoldenGate Cancer Panel can genotype 1,421 loci on more than 400 genes thought to be related to disease progression. Its two GoldenGate Mouse Linkage Mapping Panels include one with 377 validated SNP loci optimized for the 10 most common inbred mouse strains used in genetic mapping and a second with 1,449 loci providing higher resolution and broader mapping capabilities.

One-Dimensional Solution
The Ettan nanoLC is a bio-inert nanoscale peptide separation system for 1-D liquid chromatography proteomics applications upstream from electrospray ionization mass sprectrometry or MALDI MS/MS applications. The system is designed to deliver reproducible performance and suited for those labs with limited funding requiring a dedicated 1-D LC system without compromising high sensitivity. The instrument's low dead volumes ensure minimum peak broadening and consistent peak concentrations for maximum sensitivity and resolution.

More Than a Billion Base Potential
Solexa has introduced the Solexa Genome Analysis System, which is comprised of the Solexa 1G Genetic Analyzer, the Solexa Cluster Station, and associated reagents, consumables, and software, designed to generate more than 1 billion bases of sequence per run. The company says the system has the potential to increase productivity while reducing costs by over two orders of magnitude relative to current DNA sequencing technologies. Solexa intends to use the new sequencing system to sequence the entire genome of a human this year and to make the sequence data publicly available.
