Drug discovery, like any scientific endeavor, thrives in an atmosphere of
collaboration and open discussion. To help researchers, scientists,
managers and executives work together to make the next big medical
breakthrough, IBC USA Conferences (Westborough, Massachusetts, USA) is
sponsoring the 10th Annual World Congress on Drug
Discovery Technology, taking place August 8–11. Starting this year,
the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (Boston, Massachusetts, USA)
will be home to this ever-expanding conference, known as The World's Drug
Discovery Meeting Place. Attendees at the sessions, keynote and poster
presentations, workshops and panel discussions will get a comprehensive,
in-depth look at the scientific techniques and projects that are driving
the drug industry's growth in the 21st century and beyond.
A Sneak Preview Although the main
conference officially starts on Tuesday, August 9, a number of
opportunities are provided on August 8 to give early birds a leg up. There
will be three pre-conference symposia, which provide attendees with a wide
range of drug technology offerings. Symposium A is geared toward those
interested in start-ups in drug discovery and will focus on new
technologies and business models that aim to advance the discovery and
developmental process. Topics covered include New Drug Discovery
Technologies; Multi-Target Drugs for CNS Disorders; Screening and Assay
Tools and Techniques and New Therapeutic Strategies and Chemistry.
Symposium B will focus on Accessing Asia–Pacific Business Opportunities
and Successful Collaborations for Pharma and Biotech, and Symposium C will
be presented as a workshop forum entitled, Introduction to Drug Discovery.
The workshop features discussions on the key stages of the discovery
process and new technologies in bioassays and combinatorial chemistry.
The Main Event On the conference's
opening day, attendees will have a choice of two parallel symposia that
explore Promising Approaches To Drug Discovery And Drug Development. Main
topics in Track 1 are Cancer Mouse Models and Other Techniques for
Improved Prediction of Drug Efficacy and Cancer Stem Cells. Topics during
the sessions include Inducible Transgenic Mouse Models for Breast Cancer
Progression; In Vivo Imaging with Multicolor Fluorescent Proteins
in Real-time; Genetics of Hematopoiesis, Stem Cells and Leukemia and
Clinical Implications and Translation of Cancer Stem Cells. A keynote
panel, Exploring the Industry and Regulatory Interface in Drug
Development, also will be presented.
Track 2 covers Protein–Protein Interactions and Tractable Drug
Targets and Filling the Gaps in Compound Libraries and Enhancing Compound
Collections. Topics include NMR-based Lead Generation; Deconstructing
Compound Quality and Enhancement of Flexibility, Efficiency and Data
Quality through Logistics Optimization.
The conference will also feature tracks that discuss Business Ventures
& Deal-making; Protein and Antibody Therapeutics; Success Factors in
the Transition from Discovery to Clinic and Gaining Value from Discovery
Informatics. Topics during these sessions range from Development of Robust
and Reliable Biomarkers of Efficacy and Toxicity to Deal Structures for
Growing Your Pipeline to Target Identification and Validation for
Biologics. Case studies also will be presented to round out the learning
experience and drive home key concepts.
Drug Discovery Technology and Development also offers special
features that can enhance the knowledge base of drug discovery researchers
and others working in the life sciences. A career fair, technology
workshops and numerous networking opportunities are available to
interested attendees.
