Module for Automated, Live-Cell Kinetic Assays
Cellomics’VT1 Live module for its ArrayScan VT1 High-Content Screening Reader offers the ability to run automated, live-cell kinetic assays. It includes an incubation chamber that maintains a controlled environment for cells under study as well as kinetics software that automatically extracts and analyzes images and data from experiments over a course of time. The kinetics software can track cell identify over time, as well as calculate cell motility and kinetic measurements on any cell or well feature.

Ion Gating in Mass Spec
Shimadzu Biotech’s AXIMA-TOF2 MALDI TOF-TOF mass spectrometer uses novel
ion-gating technology allowing for MS/MS analysis of the most challenging complex
mixtures. The instrument is equally adept at analyzing and processing polymers, oligonucleotides, SNPs, metabolites, lipids, carbohydrates, and small molecules, in addition to its use in proteomics. It uses high-energy collision-induced dissociation to augment fragmentation of analytes, and its curved field reflectron technology delivers MS/MS data without the need for postacceleration. The AXIMA-TOF2 comes with multiple software features.

Study Expression Patterns Involved in p53 Pathways
Sigma Aldrich’s Panorama p53 Pathways Antibody Array is designed to study the
expression patterns of proteins known to be involved in p53 pathways. The array enables the analysis of cell or protein extracts and contains 112 antibodies spotted in duplicate onto a nitrocellulose slide along with Cy3 and Cy5 positive controls and a
negative control. The array allows for the efficient study of p53 pathways and the
identification of protein expression patterns that are potentially related to cancer.

New AlphaScreen Kits
PerkinElmer has two new assay kits for its AlphaScreen platform. The AlphaScreen
PhosphoSensor is an antibody-free kinase research technology platform. It allows for the direct measurement of kinase activities on fulllength protein substrates where no
antibody is available, without radioactivity.  The AlphaScreen SureFire ERK assay
allows researchers to easily screen GPCR activation in whole cells, through
homogenous, nonradioactive measurement of phospho-ERK1/2 in whole-cell lysates. It can be used with any cell line and offers a novel method for primary and secondary screening of the toughest GPCR targets.

Molecular Tests for Acute
Myelogenous Leukemia Genzyme launched two molecular tests for
acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). The FLT3 Mutation Analysis test provides rapid,
sensitive, and reliable prognostic information. FLT3 receptor mutations are one of
the most common genetic abnormalities in AML and have been shown to be independent prognostic indicators of poor outcome and response to standard chemotherapeutic interventions. The WT1 RQ PCT test allows physicians to monitor AML patients for early relapse during and following therapy. The test is designed to detect minimal residual disease or very low levels of disease.  Use of the WT1 RQ PCT test enables physicians to identify AML patients at high risk for relapse weeks to months prior to recurrence
