Nanostream, Inc.
Pharmaceutical Discovery
General Company Description
Nanostream is a pioneer in the application of microfluidics to analytical instrumentation. The company's first commercial product, the Nanostream micro parallel liquid chromatography (μPLC) system, enables high-throughput LC, providing 24 separations in parallel. Nanostream's μPLC system is a fully integrated solution, including hardware, the proprietary 24-channel Brio® cartridge, and software for both instrument control and data analysis. The immediate benefits of the μPLC system are increased speed and ease of use, with a 90% reduction in FTE needs, and a 50-fold reduction in waste. The system enables applications including separation-based assays for drug screening and sample preparation for bioanalytical applications.

Chief Chromatographic Techniques Supported

  • Micro parallel liquid chromatography
  • High performance liquid chromatography
  • Reverse-phase HPLCUV absorbance detection
  • Fluorescence detection
  • Fraction collection
  • Acquisition software
  • Analysis software (Library Purity, Solubility, Permeability, Ratiometric Assays)

Markets Served

The Nanostream μPLC system was developed after extensive market research revealed a significant unmet need for greater analytical throughput in drug discovery and development applications. With the demand for increased throughput and productivity throughout the pharmaceutical industry, Nanostream's customers span the drug discovery and development space and include analytical chemists involved in compound library management and formulation studies, biologists and biochemists involved in assay development and HTS, as well as bioanalytical chemists in pre-clinical DMPK groups.

Major Products/Services

The Nanostream micro parallel liquid chromatography (μPLC) system (top, left) includes instrumentation, 24-column microfluidic Brio cartridges and all necessary software for system control and data analysis, thereby representing a fully integrated, stand-alone solution. The system consists of an autosampler, pumps and Brio cartridges compatible with a wide range of solvents as well as 24 UV absorbance (and optional fluorescence) detectors that enable simultaneous, real-time detection. Cartridges are available in a variety of columns and stationary phases to optimize performance for specific experimental protocols. Integrated plate-stacking system for either 96- or 384- well microtitre plates and time-triggered fraction collection are also available.

Facilities

Nanostream has a 22,000 ft2 facility in Pasadena, California where all of its R&D operations are conducted. In December 2003, Nanostream opened its East Coast facility in Princeton, New Jersey. Nanostream has an agreement with Japan's largest reseller, CTC Laboratory Systems, to sell the μPLC system to the Japanese market.
